Remember me...?

George Tooker, self portrait

You look at me and think you know me,
but you know me not at all.
I am your epiphany, a drawing of last breath.
In death you will seek me out,
the half-remembered face as if clinging onto life..
But I would say to you, think on this,
the scythe it swings for all
and I will have no memory of you.

Anna :o]

Inspired by The Mag and Real Toads and also entered at Poets United.   Many thanks to you all!

This is eerily good writing. Indeed the scythe swings for everyone...can't avoid it!

this is haunting - in that last breath seeking redemption...but, who will be remembered and who will be the forgotten souls.

Ouch.

Yes, the scythe swings for all. Better to seek redemption earlier than trying to squeeze it in at the last minute! Excellent writing. Hayes Spencer is Kanzensakura

The scythe swing for all.. Indeed we better repent before he comes for me.

Hmmm, too true for comfort!

I wonder, will I be remembered? rather how many people would remember me, my face.
Nice writing

Chilling and cool! I only hope my epiphany isn't too much of a sanctimonious ass.
I was reading your "about" description. I'm a member of a blog team comprised 100% of people with mental health issues. We try to support each other as much as possible in a world that seems to want us to cease to exist.
I hope that your health care system doesn't end up becoming the kind of privatized, soulless quagmire that we have here in the United States, where receiving care for health issues can end a person up in serious debt or even homeless, and no-one gives a damn.

Deep poem that portrays our ignorance!

PD. Yes you heard about the snail to hear the sighs unleashed!
It is the relationship with my picture.

What a scary thought on that ending imagery of the scythe swinging away ~ Who will forget that ~

touche! On a serious note however to truly know someone takes courage and when it happens it is a gift for both parties I hope - and an arresting image also

One has to be aware that everyone will be treated the same in life. If unlucky one gets cut-off from those important people that matter. Nice thoughts Anna!

One does not expect such bold talk from a shell! Loved this.

The eyes of the image are piercing and I like the idea of listening into the shell and the way you brought the sound of breath being drawn similar to that of the sound within the shell...intriguing piece, Anna.

A strong ending...nicely done!

My father was a sailor and spent most of his life on the sea. We pretended to hear him when we listened. into one of the shells my father brought to us when he came home after one of his travels.
My father told us that he saw these big shells fighting on the beach.
Thanks for your. visit and comment.

oh wow - this one is haunting indeed
fits perfectly with the mood of the image
the scythe swinging reminded me of my grandpa when he moved the grass on the steep hill with a scythe cause no lawn mower was able to do its work up there

Who was this written for? Not me, I hope. Dark and fantastic.

I am a believer, Anna !! At least it works that way for divorce. For years I remembered my ex as she was in one of our romantic scenes. Then last year at our granddaughter's wedding, I saw her as she is now. Cordial and old, not the passionate young young thing who clung with me at the most memorable scene, even before we were married.
That image has never come to me again.
Thank you for reading my Real Toads entry a couple of weeks back. I am way behind but I am glad I came here to sample your writing. Thank you, I hope to return.
