Caught in
it I am,
this ever
decreasing circle,
this life
of ours.
How to say
Goodbye?
The dog
whines in the cellar,
the kettle
whistles on the stove,
the baby
mewls in its crib
and we hear
naught but the silence.
Stuck we
are, silently suffering
and the
circle ever decreases,
sucking us
in.
Love has
long floundered,
hearts are
all empty
and we sit
here in silence,
each unknowing how
to say the longest
goodbye.
to say the longest
goodbye.

Oh my goodness. This packs a wallop. Look for Goodbye (She Quietly Says) from Frank Sinatra's "Watertown" cd. You'll love it.
The long goodbye of a relationship. Very moving words.
This one has me taking the deepest of breaths... Goodbyes are such a rainbow of emotions, and your poem has captured them all.
Oh Anna, you break my heart! :'(
Goodbye is really this isn't it... long and hard.
Hi Anna ~~ This told it like it is, some people end up not spitting and just stay in agony. Guess I'm in favor of making departure like removing a Band-Aid, do it fast. But it still is painful, very painful for the one not doing the pulling. And that lasts a long, long time. I was the one hurting here. But things do get better.
Finally another new train will come.
..
I am especially caught by life as an "ever decreasing circle." Well done.
That goodbye is always so hard. Nicely done.
Saying goodbye is always difficult and sometimes heart breaking.
I love the second verse in particular.
I am sure many can relate to this stage of a relationship.. hard to fight through to a better place.
"this ever decreasing circle,
this life of ours" ..... well written. Heatbreaking
Saying goodbye is never easy... sigh..
each unknowing how
to say the longest
Where emotions get entangled within it is double the efforts to disengage!
Hank
You captured the torture of love's ending so well.
Powerful words Anna. Great stuff.
