Tomorrow

You leave lights on everywhere,
an unconscious graffiti scarring the night.
Yesterday pales into insignificance,
becomes the thrill of tomorrow.
The world weeps and you sit on your hands.
Where will you be when the lights go out?

Luv the question you posed at the ending. For this is what's scary the most. The tomorrow. For today we know.

Thanks for dropping by to read mine

Much love...

Love the way you describe lights as an unconscious graffiti scarring the night... wonderfully done.

I like this--a joining of thoughts--I particularly like the 'unconscious graffiti". Janice

Such a gentle call for action.. I feel that lights forms a circle of comfort, but also there's darkness around.

Four sentences and each sets up the existential question at the end. Lots to think about here.

I could picture those lights - sometimes light can hurt and pierce the flesh..leaving their scars and sadness..

Great opening lines and a very pertinent question to end!

A thought provoking poem. I am trying to work out what it suggests to me.

I certainly can relate to this. Sitting on our hands... it does seem that way to me.

Very thoughtful poem.
It feels like a beginning or the middle of a story.
Did you resent the habit of leaving lights on -- was it him/her that had to change?
Was this poem chastising at many levels, one person?
Is there bitterness or righteousness behind this.
So much more I want to know.

One sometimes gets into the odd situation of not wanting to be involved but circumstances dictate otherwise. To survive singly may be a thing of the past.

"an unconscious graffiti scarring the night" There is much to fear outside the light. Scary times require more strength than I feel I have.

I cannot share my favorite lines, as each line is essential, both as stand-alone thoughts, and collectively.
