Perceptions
Restless ever changing hues
Shift endlessly
The colours of our lives.
Dark clouds morph
Into summer blues;
Livid reds dissolve
In sun-lit streams
And cascade
Into our fickle dreams.
Complex,
We shape ourselves
Upon the medley of our past;
Reasoning
Contrasting
With contingent facts.
Our future so well or ill defined
Hewn in the colours
Of our mind.
Complex emotions,
Self-denial
And delusions;
We perceive ourselves,
Our lives
In grand illusions.

Deeply philosophical and as Thingy says, profound.
Thank you for your kind comments folks.

Beautiful, Anna. I really like the second stanza and I love these wise words: "We shape ourselves upon the medley of our past."

Beautiful, subtle..like following a painting being made..universal!
Amazing how self-perception differs from how the rest of the world sees us. How can they all be so wrong....:) This was a wonderfully crafted piece. Congrats! Vb
Thanks LK, Lyn and Vb.
Vb. Totally agree! It is interesting how we perceive others and we can be so wrong! Often wonderful lights hiding under a bushel just waiting to be tweaked out or conversely little demons that we failed to see!

I enjoyed this very much. Clever analogy of the kaleidoscope and our view of ourselves... and the rhymes bring it all together.

This phrase certainly resonates for me! LOL
Great Magpie! Love the idea of illusions.
Yes indeed! We do often.. and undermine our very own capabilities!
Many Hugs xox
We perceive ourselves,
In grand illusions.
Isn't that the truth!
It's the exploring that makes the journey worthwhile
Thank you for your kind comments folks!

Too true. Just read a book review in the Guardian on a similar theme - in a nutshell, about how our brain "sees", not our eyes. What we think of a the objective world is out there - but what we think it is is actually a moment-by-moment construct manufactured in the brain.
Hi Dominic.
Your comment caused me some confusion! Scoured yesterdays book review to no avail. This a.m. a light swithed on!
I have now found 'Incognito: The Secret Lives of the Brain' in Saturdays review and shall purchase this.
