Image: Duane Michals

Look at me,
really look at me,
look past my beauty,
see me,
see the inner me,
the ugly side
wherein resides
the me who gloats
as I pull off
the wings
of living
breathing things.

He loves me,
he loves me not,
he loves me.

My handsome one,
I detest your goodness,
despise its vulnerability.
You will dance my dance.
Sing to my tune.
I pick petals off the
most exquisite blooms.

He loves me,
he loves me not,
he loves me, loves me!

With thanks to Tess at The Mag for the inspiration.

I like your title - realizing that's where the message to this woman's dilemma starts

Now that’s a damaged mind! I like the insistence to look beyond the beauty. We should do this more often I think.

There's always so much going on, within, isn't there? Nice poem.

Creepy in a good way.

Yes, we do do that, don't we. Pull the petals or wings off things, at whim. Great imagery used.

Love the reference to that old daisy game sing song along...Didn't we all pluck daisies once?

I wonder how many of us really look that deeply into each other ... wonderful Mag!

Heavy duty. And it hurts. Which means you've done a great job as poet :)

Ah. She's that kind of mirror-looker! Kind of scary but very effective! K.

Hehehe, "as i pull off the wings of living breathing things", reminds me of ladies' fascination with buying Brazilian hair as attachments in this part of the world.
