Flying Down, 2006, by David Salle
|
On edge,
on the edge,
teetering tottering,
slowly slipping over…
I have flown,
Climbed
soared above the mountains,
shook the earth,
took from it,
bled it dry,
dried myself to shrivelled husk
Zenithal,
the only way out
is down…
is down…
I freefall, spiral,
rush headlong
down to dwell
amongst the dirt and ashes,
remains of life.
Dusk dims vision,
stifles, dampens resolve,
storm gathers,
bolts brain to introspection,
forever looking inward
I compartmentalise,
tie myself in fragile bundles
fit to fragment
at slightest touch.
Trapped, cornered,
hedged in within myself,
no way out.
Teetering tottering
on (the) edge,
on (the) edge,
Sometimes despair
brings with it
nought but a desire to fly
down....
down....

I guess we all feel a bit like that at times, but if we can fly away....
oy, well you certainly captured the feeling...and a bit of truth as well on the end....fly on...smiles.
Permit me to give my own interpretation - sometimes we struggle too much to get things done right and properly, whereas we should just let go and free-fall, what we fear doesn't always come to pass.
I loved the frenetic pace you set with all the flying and swooping....lovely verse
Excellently powerful.
Strong writing. Most enjoyable.
Well done...fly high...
Some how this also reminds me of Icarus - flying to close to the sun, melted wax that held wings together...Hoping for a safe landing.

Wonderful, I could almost feel the rising panic, but how dreadful when the onky way is down. Please fly!
Excellent combination of the two memes.
This is spectacular. Brilliant response to the prompt.
dizzying read, vivid and emotionally grabbing. Yes, sometimes the only response is to fly!

nicely done for the wordle and the Mag prompt....well done indeed and thanks for sharing
I love this one. Really resonated today.
Nicely done...
I like the lines:
I freefall, spiral
rush headlong
down to dwell
amongst the dirt and ashes
remains of life.
There is a combination of falling and darkness that strikes a cord; a place where everyone has been at some time. You capture the swirling feeling of falling and floating and flying so well.
Couldn't agree more, the only way is to fly ... Nice spiral feeling to this, Anna.

Great combo of both prompts, with a dizzy feel.
Love the rushed clip feel of the piece...like I might explode. This is a strong write. Brava!
Flying is sometimes the only option. I love your poem.
Thank you for your kind and welcome comments folks
and we do all have our down days...

Nice write :)
oh yes...such a felt write..and good if we can fly on then...
Intertwined divinely!
Whoa...well done.
The painting doesn't evoke many pleasant emotions, does it?
Be sure to fly up again!
Well, I thought they were both difficult, but you have mined a fine poem using them both! I step back in surprise and admiration!
Your word choice is fantastic.
"Zenithal." I'm jealous...
fantastic response to the words prompt! Love this
I see myself in this piece, and thank you for that reflection. My week was difficult, and your last words bring some release.
Cheers for your kind comments folks - they are much appreciated.

happy saturday anna...smiles.
It is so creative to add a focused, personal dialogue to events happening in the painting, that seem NOT to have a clear focus. Brilliant work, Anna. I really enjoyed this. Thanks for sharing. =D
An incredible piece of writing. I know only too well those feelings you describe.
Fly lady, fly!
Thank-you Brian, Linda and Bee.
