Alive!

Let not this ocean consume me,

rather,
let me know of its tides, fathom its depths,
let me ride out its storms, sail on its seas,
let the stars and moon guide me safely to shore,
let me wiggle my toes in the sand.

Let me feel the wind in my hair, the rain on my face,
let the sun beat in my heart filling my soul.

Let me love life.

Anna :o]

M (thanks M) at Mindlovemisery asks if we are an optimist, pessimist or realist.  I consider myself to be a realist, but realism is often burdensome, dampening the spirit and destroying hope, so I self-medicate with a constant dose of optimism and for the most part remain happy, happy, happy!  (I do so love life!)

Tess at The Mag provided the image and the inspiration for the setting of my words.  Thanks Tess

Poets United kindly opened its pantry.  Thanks PU.

I was just looking at this image and writing, it is such a gorgeous picture =)

I love this Anna that last line especially! The funny thing is I do love life even if only in theory sometimes and that is why my Depression has never destroyed me

I love that you self-medicate with optimism that is the healthiest way to self-medicate it trumps my sugar addiction lol

What a truly beautiful poem, and I loved your afterthoughts so much.

Hmmmm. I think perhaps I self medicate on realism. No wonder I have problems!!!

it is so hard to chase the bottom side of the glass and so easy to fill it up and enjoy...self medication is an awesome way to go

What a beautiful poem; it contains so much of what represents the ocean : )
I had to smile at your self-medication. Realistic optimism is probably the best attitude.

Beautiful! What an optimistic ending, and a hope that we all have, I think....to love life, whatever it holds for us.

This is light and fun. I want to find some sand and wiggle my toes! Very nice.

I enjoyed "fathom its depths." Or was the double meaning happenstance?

Living life rather than being consumed by its oceans :)

Thanks again for your welcome comments folks.

Berowne: not happenstance my friend - something in the subconscious brought
'fathom' to me and I thought of the wonderful and appropriate double-meaning with joy!

It's so true how much we miss when we allow ourselves to become consumed... This is brilliant.

Beautiful combo of the two prompts! "Self medicating with optimism" is a much better idea than some other things people use to self medicate!

Confidence and optimism ebbs and flows - we need lovely writing like this to gently remind us...

A beautiful thought..... don't let that ocean ..... life.... swallow you up and spit you out. I find there is one prerequisite to happiness and that is a healthy body free of pain. When the body is peaceful, that sun just beats in the heart and truly fills the soul with happiness. Amazing.
Thanks for dropping by. So great to see you again.

Hope springs eternal in the human condition, in the teeth of, in spite of, the global tragedies and natural disasters. I applaud your great heart, your poet's heart.
