Who Art Thou?

Who art thou fuzzy buzzy bumbling busy friend replete in striped pyjamas,
we should humble in thy presence be,  thy busyness should charm us.

How odd it then the gentle hum of flapping wings does naught but to alarm us,
how odd it then we fear defensive sting as if thee intent to harm us

Oh let it be that ignorance fear be gone, let thy buzzyness disarm us
for thee it is to us abundance brings, for thou art natures little farmers.

Anna :o]

Samuel at dVerse has us writing in riddles.  Thanks Sam!  And if you haven’t guessed, I am writing of frogs.  No I’m not really, the beautiful image was to confuse.

The theme of the topic was inspired by the lovely Charlotte on her Facebook message in which she requested a petition be signed, a petition urging Bayer and Syngenta to drop their lawsuits against the European Commission.  Read of it here – PLEASE DO DO READ – sign the petition and save our bees from the greed of Big Pesticide.

(A third of the crops we need require pollination by our insect friends – not just bees.  We need them and not all insects are pests, some/many we rely on for our survival – and not just pollinators.  Tis our children (probably not us – depends how old you are) that shall suffer the effects of future bad harvests and loss of insect life.  Please sign the petition.  Cheers!)

AH.. loved that confusing thing.. I actually tried to match it to the frogs first. Terrible what's happening to the bees.... and other insects (and I guess it would just be more mosquito without bees.

Bees in our bonnets, with plenty of classic sting, those /striped pajamas/ are worn by many winged creatures and still put me in mind of Cagney in a 30's prison epic, or THE BOY IN THE STRIPED PAJAMAS that tore my heart out, but hey, anyone who uses a frog as a fake-out is OK by me.

Love it! Great misdirection with the frog, and yet so right as they and bees tell us so much about the health of our land and water. Well done! And very timely.

I loved this! Yes it is odd that we fear the bee isn't it? Bees are one of the most important species on the planet.

i was going to say bees and then saw you say frogs and was like huh? ha....kinda scary thought to lose the bees and others that pollinate. i dont think we understand the extent of damage that would cause...

I'm saving bees...
and how!
They took up residence 3 inches away from my bath and I decided to put up with them instead of plastering them with insecticide. Which would do not much good either.
Still, it is rather unnerving to think there are so many [ thousands of them] so close to my person. They are not honwy bees so no bee keeper could be persuaded to take the swarm away.

While reading, my eyes were going over the image of a frog. I was thinking it isn't a frog definitely and soon it was clear it was a bee. hank god! I passed in this test. :-D

Interesting read! Bees are an important part of our ecosystem... every single insect is. It is a good deed to try and save them and to stop being the ignorant buffoons, which we humans are most of the times.

delightfully descriptive poem about not-frogs ;) and our reaction to them... it is rather alarming to think of a world without them

Great photo, even if you did use it as a red herring.... Love your language, it's so appropriate for the piece.

This was so lovely...I had to ignore the frog as I read it. Truth bee told...I love to watch bees go about their task of pollination and frogs delight me too. We have one in our garden who serenades us at night...and drives our dogs crazy.

Yes, we must protect the little ones that help us live. Will gladly sign the petition. Love how you wrote about this.

The law of nature had already been extended in a a way to maintain balance. Man intruded and caused destruction not immediately seen. Truly said, greed justifies for those irresponsible! Great reminder Anna!

sad for the subjects of your poem as life has not been kind to them these past years -- too many chemicals causing grief -- a of the farmers and then the rest of us will suffer as the bees continue to fail

We have a lot of flowers in our yard and I am so much more conscious of just leaving them alone - we need them, YES! We humans have no sense... We can not live without bees! Crazy.

I really enjoyed the rhyming scheme in this, especially the clever way you rhymed "farmers"...

As for the bees themselves, I do everything I can to give them all the flowers they could want :) ~peace, Jason

I love how you take on a certain lilt of voice here, reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland's sleepy rendition of "How doth the busy bee". Wonderfuly done!

More attention needs to be given to the importance of the insect world. Australia however is the only country where the insects will survive without threat. It is the country where everything is a potential killer. The Aussie insect seems to have DNA which makes it indestructible and guaranteed to sting, kill and cause maximum misery to humans especially in the summer time.

it's a cause worth signing up..
it's a fact that if bees are extinct planet won't survive much long after that..

I got confused with that frog too :P
i guess u intentionally put it there

It always amazes me what people will do for money. And by "people" I include companies. I'll sign the petition.

we really do not know what we have got until we loose it and all the little things make the big picture so beautiful, so let us keep the hive alive or reap the whirl whirlwind of unbalance.

A little bee against big business, what chance does it have?

No doubt we will all be fed on synthetic food soon.
