Fresh we were,
fresh with the hope and the dreams
that are the spirit of youth,
we would reshape the world,
fashion war into peace
with naught but flowers in our hair
and love in our hearts.
Older now, we have nothing but hope…

De at dVerse has us writing a quadrille, which is a verse
of exactly forty-four words. Today we
must include some form of the word Dream.
Cheers De!

Yes. we are older now. but in these days and times, I still dream of peace and getting it with flowers instead of guns. A lovely wistful poem.
Hope is all anybody's got. I still dream of peace, too, Anna. This is lovely.
This so much reminds me of Pete Seeger singing ... the strangest dream... love the hope...
Flowers and hope. Can't think of two better things to get us through life! Lovely little poem.
I'm with Toni on this one - and I'm still hoping. ;)
,,,and HOPE springs eternal.
A lovely poem and a great image to go with it - I still believe in peace, it all starts with dreams and flowers :o) xxx
Dreams are gone but hope remains.
I decided to just live as long as I can in this anthill called earth. Love, cat.
Lovely & wistful, indeed --and sweet & sad. In our 20's in the 60's--vacillating between getting high & demonstrating--perhaps no other generation grew up with such insights, music & dreams--and war & Nixon & the Beatles. But hey, no dreams ever came true after giving up.
Love your take on the prompt, Anna. Yes, the dreams haven't come true, but the hope still lives. Great write!
I remember those days. They were quite a while back. Thanks for the refresher
Oh, those thrilling days of hope, and all things possible. We really are on a downward spin from those times. Well done, Anna!
The strongest weapon of all. (Hope) Nice write.
We must hold on to hopes and dreams.
Hear, hear!
Hope that in the end man's common sense will prevail.
to have hope is a good thing - and even more when you see how the world develops at the moment... hold on to it!!
Flowers, love and hope/ dream...this is humanity yet everything seems to go out of hand.
Anna, I like this kind of bitter-sweet longing. And "fashion war into piece". Thanks for sharing!
If only it was this easy, as we thought back then. What is it in humankind that is so at odds with each other?
Yes...

Hope is always good! And flowers, too.
Hope is the last bastion for hopeless times.
We both wrote about hope! :-D Thinking of that freshness and hopefulness of youth made me smile. Lovely poem, Anna.
As we age, dreams fade, but hope remains. I hope that's enough to change the world. Lovely poem.
