Getting it Wrong

I hug people; I’m like that, tactile.
I don’t hug everybody,
just those (I sense) send out welcoming signals,
those who want me to take them,      now.

Sometimes I do get it wrong though
and they shrink back,
wriggle themselves free from embrace,
look at me fearful.

Not everyone trusts a man with a scythe.

What a lovely O. Henry-ish sort of ending--took me entirely by surprise, as scythes often do, though you would think you could hear the preliminary swish...this 55 demonstrates clearly that there are hugs, and then there are *hugs* Thanks for playing Anna--this is a great example of the subtle set-up and pounce which the 55 can do so well in the right hands.

I've noticed that people feel the same way about a woman with a big hammer. No idea why. Maybe the scythe carriers and hammer wielders should, um... be discreet about their metal until after the hugging is done. To keep people from wriggling, you know? Or, from running...

This gave me a giggle.

gee, I wonder why?

Okay, I did NOT see that coming! 30,000 men and women every day....that's a lot of hugging!

Oh, I see him now and then. He'll smile across the yard, or wave from the street. So far, he hasn't come close enough to embrace, but we're sizing up one another, getting used to our company. When he's ready for me, I'll be ready for him.
Thanks, Anna. atairsagudn.

Hey, don't fear the reaper. Sometimes he's only shearing off grass instead of souls. Loved the ending of this. Made me smile

Reaper pictured doesn't seem at all grim. Go ahead and hug --I would-- but keep an eye on that scythe.

Well, I am not a hugger... but even so, the last line caught me by surprise.

We need so many hugs each day, and one way to be sure we get them, is to give them. A wonderful write with a surprise.

You are actually right... I've never been hugged when wielding a scythe...
