Birdsong

This wondrous gift of life we should embrace
and live each day as if it were our last,
for all too soon our time on this earths grace
is lost in heartbeats pulsed, becomes our past.
I shall not sleep in dreams of darkest night
nor shall I hide in guard of folded wing,
instead I shall succumb to endless flight
as high above this earth I soar and sing
the praises joy of every welcome breath,
inhale my world ‘fore starlight flickers low
and new life springs upon my wondrous death
as I brave into new horizons go,
and leave unto this earth my legacy,
myself alive in feathered progeny.

Anna :o]

Tony at dVerse has us writing sonnets and this offering has taken me hours and I think the close is pretty poor – so I will continue to rethink it…

Also, I have messed about with ‘Word’ and have no idea how to undo what I did – as I am not sure what I did.  Problem is if I attempt to edit, Word vacuums up whatever follows – does anyone know what I have done and how to fix the mess I have made?  Suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Inhaling the earth is a very fine way to embrace it. Flying birds, bats and butterflies seem to me to be the guardians. Love this poem!

Your poem is a lovely affirmation. So read it, I realized it is exactly what I needed tonight before going to sleep. I hope it means that things are good with you and yours. Later, dear, sweet Anna and great big hugs!

Hi Anna,

You've given us an uplifing paeon to the wonder and joys of life, and a challenge to make the most of the time that we have.

Writing sonnets is hard, especially for dedicated free-verse poets ... smiles.

There are a few places where I would have made different word choices to yours, but I think that's part of what makes each poet's voice distinctive.

I also understand your concerns about the closing couplet - although i think the trouble starts in the line before. I'm not sure what I'd do about it; probably take my own sonnet's advice and procrastinate for a bit ... smiles

And your Word problem is as Brian says; hit the Insert button on your keyboard again and it should be resolved.

Superb pleasure! I figure how difficult the writing must have been - but it reads itself with ease.

You have done very well Anna, It is a harder form than you realise but I think you have written a fine sonnet. It flows nicely and you subject was easy to follow. So well done.

I love this. Reminds me of the circle of life in many ways. Birth and death. Morning and Night. Beginning and End. I love it...the beautiful circle of life :) very apropos for spring.

Beautiful poem. I thought you were maybe quoting a renowned poet until I read you had written it yourself!

The Word problem does indeed sound like you have accidentally nudged the INSERT or INS button. When pressed once (as accidentally in your case)it gobbles up letters. When pressed again it cancels that and you are back to normal again. ope that helps for the future.

I love this, it's amazing! I love how it's written out of the point of view of birds. And it sounds wonderful to me!
