Beguiled

'The Snake Charmer'  Henri Rousseau, 1907

Ah this Eden,
This dark Eden,
The very garden
Where I beguile
Those that slither
Belly down.

Transfixed are you,
My haunting melodies
Resonate
And excite your mind.
Snake-charmed,
Beguiled
You let me in.
Dark thoughts accessible
I know
The very inch of you,
Know your mark
And sweet eyed
I bend you to my will.

Slither my friend,
Slither to me.
My guise is that of
Melodious charm,
You see not
My evil treachery.
Slither to me my friend,
Slither to me.

Uh oh. If I were slithering around I would slither the other way pdq. Ulysses tied himself to the mast and stoppered up the ears of his crew with wax when crossing within earshot of the Sirens. He nearly didn't make it past them anyway.

"Slither to me" gives it an earthy punch, very sensual, and a bit foreboding. I like it!

Trust you to come so very close to the original. Haunting, threatening yet mesmerising.

I'm imagining a politician--but I admit, they would more likely be the slitherers, not the slitherees.

Well now I'm keeping an eye out for that charming deceiver that might be lurking just around the corner. Great poem!

A perfect description of a snake charmer. Henri Rousseau would have like this. I like it, too.

Anna,
Be a little wary of this character. We never know his next move!

Very good build up in your verse

Am in total of this fascinating read. At the same time, I'm chilled because I loathe snakes and I have goose bumps all over - I kid you not!
