Traffic

She wears attire that fails to flatter,
fancy up her bag of bones.
But no matter,   for her allure lies within for him
and those who rush to follow,
with their grubby hands and grubby minds,
for she is nothing more than nothing.

Once done they finger trace the lines
the needle tracks to crook of arm,
the foul evidence of ignoble gain,
their power play of bodies.

And here lies she drugged-up half-dead
mouthing silent hate through lips til soon
forever silenced.

Sumana at Poets United has us writing of silence and above is my offering.  Cheers Sumana!

You pAcked quite a bit of story into just a couple verses. It is not unfamiliar. Almost a modern romeo and juliet. Ahe falls for him follows his poor decisions. ..til death do us part. ..nice bit of writing anna.

Goodness Anna...that kind of silence begs for justice and we are all guilty of letting it die without remedy. Powerful poem. We are writing about domestic abuse today as I host micropoetry month on my blog.. drop in if you get a chance,

That "cheers" in your note was a counterpoint to your poem which has not cheer what-so-ever as I think on those brutally silenced and deprived of human agency, of nature's agency! Your poem is a vibrant accusation, powerful!

Oh God! What vicious space the hu/mans have made of this planet. So heartbreaking!

Affecting piece of writing. With that kind of silence, how can we afford to be silent!

This silence hovers on the edge of howl. Well done, if carved with a straight razor.
