Clique

Back then I wrote lists on the back of my hands,
notes to my long-to-belong little self,
lists of things to remember,
things that don’t really matter,
well to me, but not to everyone else.

I peered at my lists through wide-open eyes
then erased with a finger & spit,
for whatever I did I was not the right shape to fit
in this clique exclusively fashioned by you.

Thinking of it, why did I want to belong
when I don’t want to change who I am,
I won’t play your games to beg to belong
to your close-knit vain little clique,
- if you don’t like that, well I don’t give a damn.

Butter each other up; scratch each others backs
whilst you almost ignore me as I won’t play your damn childish games.
I don’t give a damn if you don’t like who I am,
and quite frankly the way that you act defines how little you are
and I don’t view myself as the same.

I love what you did in this line:

"notes to my long-to-belong little self"

You should never have to change who you are to fit in.

The last 2 stanzas are perfect. One must put limits of what can be tolerated. Make a stand and stand by it for it begets respect doing so! Philosophical and wonderful take Anna!

It's not fun trying to fit in, that is why I often am a loner. Just be yourself..

I used to write lists and lists too ~ Yes, better to accept who you are rather than buttering up others ~

An interesting write. Probably always true, but perhaps you have to grow a little, to understand, you really didn't want to be accepted.

Precisely!💜 We don't need anyone's approval!

It is so empowering to reach the state where one doesn't allow themselves to be defined by what others think. This expresses it well.

I have never liked to write lists... but I always thought it was something you were supposed to do...

I have learned that if you don't remember it without a list, it's probably not worth doing.

Fitting in can be very painful for some. There is true uniqueness in just being yourself!

A lot of good reasons not to belong to that clique.

It's important to be true to yourself but we have to know ourselves first. Hugs!

It's human nature to want to fit in yet we should never jeopardize who we really are inside. Uniqueness is a gift.

It's great to find our own way and be ourselves. Nice capture.
